Vision 2 Hear Weekly Update

AWAKEN 2016 LOGO FINAL

It’s Monday morning and I am trying to get back into the swing of things. Recovering from the India trip has been a little more difficult this time for some reason….maybe it was the schedule? Or the temperature? But I have a head cold and sinus issues and I’m still trying to get my sleep pattern back to USA times (and then there’s Daylight savings next weekend)! Currently I’m in NC, and I should be here until about the 16th before heading to Florida.

The NC WAVE Team after the 30-Hour Fast Forward Love Feast.

We finalized our Love Feast 30-hour Fast Forward this year with several from the NC Wave team sharing in the event. We began the fast at noon on Friday and ended at 6pm on Saturday. Everyone fasted on their own this year from their homes and then we gathered together at Golden Corral of share a meal together to celebrate God’s blessing and what He accomplished through the fasting times. This year our totals raised during this Fast Forward season was $3000.00.
We will split it so that Daniel’s school fees are paid and then the rest will go toward helping children of gangs and our deaf students through Vision 2 Hear El Salvador. Thank you all very much for all that you have given to make this effort so fruitful!

The 20 Year Anniversary Celebration

DSC_0736As many of you know, Vision 2 Hear is in partnership with The Korean Baptist Church of Havelock, NC, which is the only ethnic church located in Havelock. For the last 20 years, The Korean Baptist Church has been faithful in reaching out to Korean/Americans with the gospel of Jesus Christ. This past Sunday several churches gathered to celebrate the wonderful blessing HKBC has been and to pray forward with all that God has awaiting.

The NC WAVE Team kicked things off with a couple of Sign Language songs, which really got things moving along quickly. With performances from The Havelock Baptist and Jacksonville Baptist, the 2-hour event was filled with songs and worship of the Lord, telling of His great worth and praising Him for all He has done through the ministry.

DSC_0663Reverend James Lee from Denver Korean Baptist Church in Denver Colorado was the keynote speaker for the evening and gave a great message about the real riches stored up in Heaven when we give our all to Jesus. He spoke in English and Korean, self-translating along the way.

As the worship service closed, it was far from over. We still had the food and cake to enjoy. With tons of Korean cuisine to choose from, everyone was quite satisfied by the end of the night having taken in everything from kimchi to eggrolls. As a token of remembrance, each family received a small hand towel from the HKBC.

Thanks for your continued prayers for the Havelock Korean Baptist Church and the First Baptist Church of Havelock as we continue our partnership in reaching this county and surrounding areas with the gospel.

Love Feast

love feast promo

This Valentine’s Day Weekend, let me challenge you to fast from Friday lunch until Saturday dinner, a total of 30 hours to help us raise money to support the work happening in El Salvador. We sponsor a college student and pay for his school each year. He is currently working with children who are living in a high-gang populated area. We want raise funds for him to continue the work and assist some of those kids even more with education. If we exceed the amount he needs, we will use it for work in India as I’ll be going there at the end of February. Please start collecting sponsors now. It would be great for people to donate a $1 per hour…or $30 buck for $30 hours. Your participation will help many people…there’s no greater way to show love than to sacrifice. That’s why we are calling it a Love Feast!

Nigeria 2014

Nigeria 2014

George Lockhart and Vision 2 Hear have had a long standing relationship with Nigeria. Since 2001, George has been traveling to Nigeria helping dig 9 water wells (plus two in Benin) in that time. He has been in partnership with WorldCare Ministries of Kings Mountain, NC from the beginning.

Dr. Moses Neuman, founder of WorldCare is from Nigeria himself and still has much of his family residing there. Working in conjunction with Dr. Neuman, WorldCare, and others, George has been able to assist in seeing many things happen over the last decade.

This trip is the first in over 4 years and George is returning to catch up on the latest work that has been accomplished in his absence. For years, George and his various team members would mix concrete, carry blocks and shovel dirt in helping to build a school. That school has now been completed and is being used on a daily basis! We praise god for his faithfulness through the years to see this task and building completed. George is going back to be part of celebratory exercises and share in the school for a few days.

While in Nigeria, George will also be able to catch up with and visit several of the students/people that have been involved with Vision 2 Hear Africa. We have helped provide school funding for Festus Okwara and Prince Okerke, along with some assistance to Rosemary Kalu and Ikechukwu Okoronkwo. Festus and Prince have graduated recently and George will be able to join them for celebrations of their accomplishments.

We will also be taking some school supplies provided by Christ Fellowship Academy in Palmetto Bay, Florida. Students and Staff of CFA generously gave at the beginning of the school year to help provide supplies for students in our new school. We cannot thank Mrs. Blanco and Mrs. Cruz along with all the CFA Students enough for their kindness and support!

George will fly out on January 19 and return on January 31. Please keep him in your prayers and all of the team from WorldCare and Vision 2 Hear as they travel abroad to continue expanding God’s Kingdom.

Charity Water: Let It FLOW

Last Winter we started collecting change as part of our Change For A Change Campaign. We are bringing that to a finish at our WAVE Conference this year and want to make one final big push to collect as much change as possible. With our theme for the conference being FLOW, we want to challenge all of our teams to collect as much change as possible for the next couple of weeks and bring it at the WAVE CONFERENCE. This will serve as your entrance fee. We will recognize the team with the most funds collected between now and then. So team leaders, rally your groups and LET IT FLOW!

El Salvador Nicaragua Trip October/November

The summer had many highlights but nothing really compares to travel outside of the country for 3 weeks! Traditionally, V2H tries to make across cultural international trip each year. This summer, V2H traveled to El Salvador and spent 14 days and then another 6 days in Nicaragua. It was during this time that I began to realize some of the dreams and goals we had as an international ministry start really taking shape.

During my time in Nicaragua, we began talking about forming another WAVE team. We already have a vibrant and flourishing team in El Salvador and now the possibility of expansion was on the horizon once again! Wow! And could we possibly bring the ES team to be part of the expansion? Jorge Campos had actually been to this place once before, meeting some of the locals and introducing them to some of what we do. The initial seed and thought came from our friend Scott Kirschner who has made several visits to Nicaragua. With Scott’s help in arranging for this trip and working alongside Tony and Debbie Jones, founders of the camp we stayed at, Jorge and I were able to deepen the possibility by spending time laying some foundation and framework for the future. Now we are both looking to return with the ES team in October and November to launch our second “Spanish” team. The dates are a little flexible at this point as we are still working on details but it is certainly an exciting time in our ministry to be able to see two international expansions within 10 years! Praise God!

Please be in prayer as the US side needs to help generate funds to bring the ES team to Nicaragua in order to make this expansion complete. If you’d like to support this mission financially, you can give through www.paypal.com using glv2h@yahoo.com as the recipient. Your gifts are tax-deductible. Thanks so much!
